Press Release

(For immediate public release)

Kendallprojects is please to announce the Exhibition by Jason Kendall,

tHe HaMMeRS project: a story of a scApegoAt & cAutionArytAiL”.

It will be on view at Washington Square East Galleries May 14th – May 24th 2008.

The exhibition is the result of a yearlong project, producing multiple works surrounding the artist’s relationship between being a former competitive athlete and a life long Rock N Roll fan. Numerous explorations in both video and sculpture investigate the possibilities of creating two contradictory characters based on the separate elements of his identity. By combining symbols, structures and actions from sports and Rock N Roll culture he has created a strange dimension where an event that resembles construction work and/ or jam session between a cautionary tale and a scapegoat take place. The cautionary “tail” references the artist himself as an ex-athlete and the scapegoat references the relationship the artist has to the “Rock God”. These two character are engaged in a form of communication only they and the artist could possibly understand. However using strong images and references to Led Zeppelin, high school sports and the environment of a construction site we are allowed into the world he has created as a voyeur who sneaks up on his character(s).
